PROTECT OUR HOWLER MONKEYS!

I am Jenna Wing, a senior at Mira Costa High school and I created a documentary to raise awareness on the decline in the Howler Monkey population in Costa Rica. Over the summer I interviewed the SIBU founder, Vicki Coan, in order to share the wonderful things that she does to help the Howler Monkeys.

SIBU Wildlife Sanctuary has been working to rehabilitate and rescue wild animals since 2000. Although they have been able to help many wild animals, they are in need of more medical equipment such as ultrasound machines and anesthesia since the closest one is miles away. The costs of these medical items are more than SIBU can afford and it is our turn to help.

There are a few ways to help keep the monkeys and other wildlife alive whether you live in Costa Rica or across the world. If you live in Costa Rica some ways to lower the monkey's risk of electrocution are building your electrical wires underground or away from the canopies. You can also try to not build your house into the canopies so their homes will not become your vacation place because they were here first. If your house is already in the canopy put something around your house that will keep the animals away from the wires such as an outline of a vulture.

If you do not live in Costa Rica but want to help, you can! You can donate to the link below or make a purchase on SIBU's website. One donation can do more than you think! Remember, wildlife was here first!
